Diagnostic instruments
for disorders caused by hand-transmitted vibration
HVLab Diagnostic Instruments have been developed through research at the University of Southampton’s Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, a world-class leader in its field. HVLab Diagnostic Instruments provide computer-based measurement of the state of the vascular and sensori-neural systems of the hand for the diagnosis of disorders caused by hand-transmitted vibration.
The HVLab Diagnostic Instruments are used in medical, industrial, research and educational establishments for fundamental research, monitoring programs.

Measurement of vibrotactile thresholds. A new version of Tactile vibrometer developed in ISVR. |
Measurement of tactile thresholds for vibration stimuli. Vibrotactile thresholds may be used for assessment of sensory changes associated with neurological dysfunction. |
Thermal aesthesiometerMeasurement of tactile thresholds for thermal stimuli. Thermal thresholds for both sensation and pain may be used to indicate sensorineural dysfunction. |
8 channel temperature monitorMeasurement of finger skin temperatures following cold provocation of the hand. The recovery of finger skin temperatures can be used to indicate vascular dysfunction.

Multi-channel plethysmograph Finger systolic blood pressure (FSBP) Measurement of finger systolic blood pressures following cold provocation of the fingers. Finger systolic blood pressures measured at different temperatures can be used to detect problems in the vascular response to cold. Finger blood flow (FBF) Measurement of blood flow during venous occlusion of the digits using mercury-in-silastic strain gauges. Blood flow measured at sub-diastolic occlusion pressure can be used to detect problems in the vascular response to vibration.
